Just got a MacBook Air '14 for $240 through LetGo (kind of sketchy, I know) and it wouldn't let me reset it, so I kind of thought it was goofed up. Use Disk Utility to erase the new HD (the one you just put back into the machine) using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and name it the traditional "Macintosh HD".
